David Allen ARSMAChairman of The Fylingdales Group of Artists
David Allen has been painting for pleasure since he was a teenager and gave up his career as a Chartered Civil Engineer in 1990 to paint professionally. He worked in oils but after receiving a set of pastels as a present in 1994 he switched to this medium and has been exploring their use ever since. Born and living in Yorkshire the counties east coast from Flamborough to Saltburn is a favorite painting destination as well as its dales. David also works abroad particularly in Italy. His work is regularly exhibited at the Mall Galleries with the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Pastel Society where he won a Frank Herring award in 2002. He also exhibits at a number of leading galleries including John Noott in Broadway, Christine Pybus Fine Art in Whitby and Walker Art Galleries in Harrogate where he has had a solo exhibition. In 1998, he was elected a member of the Fylingdales Group of Artists, which was formed in 1925 on the east coast of Yorkshire by prominent artists of the time including members of the Staithes Group. In 2004, he was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists as an Associate Member.
