Stephen J. Broadbent B.A. (Hons). A.T.D.
Born in Leeds. Secondary education was in Sussex. Studied painting and stained glass design at Newcastle-upon-Tyne University, postgraduate at Birmingham University Department of Education. Moved to Ryedale in 1975, where he works as a teacher and painter.
The North Yorkshire Moors and varied Ryedale scenes provide inspiration for the paintings, as do estuaries, inland waterways, sea and coastline. Paintings have their roots in the English watercolour tradition, broad washes of colour and tone, contrasted with finely observed detail, create paintings with feeling for place and atmosphere. An enthusiast who delights in sharing his fascination with painting through teaching and talks.
Exhibitions. A founder member of The Vale of Pickering Art Club where work is shown regularly. Exhibitions include:- Northern Academy, Harrogate. Nunnington Hall (one man). Elected member and exhibitor with The Fylingdales Group of Artists. Commissions undertaken. Work is in many private collections in Britain and abroad. |
